The Birth of Ellie
by Kristine Wines

As most of you know Ellie is finally here!!! What an
exciting arrival it was.  At 8:45 p.m. on May 3rd my water broke.
It didn't take very long before my contractions began
and increased in intensity.  I called Jude (my midwife), who
then came by to make sure my water was broke and that I was
ok.  She then told me to try to sleep... haha like that
was really going to happen.  Evan set up the living room for
the birth while I paced around the bed room from the bed to
the bath room.  Around 2:30/3:00 a.m. my contractions were
between 1-5 minutes a part, lasting about a minute, so I
called Jude again.  She came over and from here out most of
what was happening became a blur as I was focusing on the
contractions and tired from lack of sleep.

Eventually, we filled the birthing pool for me to go into.
When I got into the pool, my contractions had slowed down
and come to a holt!  At the time I thought it was because
I was too comfortable in the warm water, but later Jude
informed me that when her assistant/midwife in training came
into the house, it caused the labor to stop (this is
apparently common).  The stopping of my labor was frustrating
because I felt as though I had to start everything all over.
This was probably a huge exageration due to the the labor,
however it turned out to be a huge help.  Since this
happened, I went through a tiny mental break down and started
yelling "she's never going to come!"  Then I thought about what
if she didn't come and of course a c-section popped into
my head (a huge fear of mine).  At this point I began
pushing, which triggered my body to help me to let go of her so
she could come out.

I felt my bottom and could feel a bulge!!! Another
contraction and I felt her hair!!!  There is nothing like the
feeling that she is really almost out and into my arms.  One
more push and she came right out!  I was amazed by the size of
her and relieved by how incredibly healthy she looked.
She began crying right away and as I looked into her blue
eyes my heart melted.  I was in love!

Evan was an amazing support throughout the entire birth.
He stayed by my side and helped me through each contraction.
The labor would not have been the same with out him.  I'm
so grateful to be with him!

After 12 hours of labor Ellie was born at 8:40 a.m on May
4th.  She was 6.9 lbs and 21 inches.

Peace and Love,
Kristine & Evan
